At mma, we’re proud to have team members like Madeline Milby, who are passionate about improving the communities where they live and work.
Madeline’s path to civil engineering started in middle school, where she was drawn to the mathematical and problem-solving side of the field. She ultimately chose civil engineering because of the variety of opportunities it offers. Her connection to mma began as an intern, where she built relationships with the team that would go on to shape her career.
“As an intern, I really connected with the people at mma and made some great friends here. That experience had a big influence on my decision to come back and join the company full-time.”
Madeline finds two parts of her job especially rewarding: working with interns and new hires and watching their skills develop, and seeing the projects she works on become part of everyday life across DFW.
“When I see a project I’ve worked on being completed, I get a real sense of pride and think, ‘Wow, I did that.’ It’s rewarding to know that the developments we design will become homes, offices, and other spaces that will become integral to people’s daily lives.”
One especially meaningful project to Madeline is Anthem, a redevelopment of Lincoln Square in Arlington.
“Lincoln Square is a staple part of the community where I live and work. Getting to be involved in the redevelopment of a place that I was already familiar with made the project feel a little more personal.”
Madeline credits much of her approach — at work and in life — to advice she’s received about the importance of discernment: knowing what truly requires your attention, what isn’t worth stressing over, and how a situation ultimately affects the bigger picture.
Looking ahead, Madeline expects AI to become increasingly integrated into civil engineering and the general workforce. While she doesn’t see AI replacing the role of the engineer, she believes it will change how teams work and make parts of the design process more efficient. She’s also hopeful about continued advancements in sustainable, environmentally responsible development.
“We only have one Earth, so we should continue finding better, more sustainable ways to develop while protecting our environment.”
Life Outside mma
Outside of work, Madeline is a big reader and traveler, making a point to take at least one international trip a year to experience different cultures and parts of the world. At home, her style leans bold and colorful — a little more personality than people might expect from an engineer. She also recently picked up Muay Thai, training two to three times a week as a way to stay active and add some structure back to her evenings.
